Traditional country garden

The brief

Previously a 1930’s small house, the property has been rebuilt into a large residence to a Georgian style, the garden extending to approximately 1.5 acres. The brief was to create a traditional country style design using existing features.

My design

I redesigned and replanted beds to create wide borders with vistas, focal points and areas for discovery. A mixture of evergreen and deciduous plants and bulbs were used which bloom at different times of the year. Features include areas for sitting and entertaining, including a new summer house. Height was created using a Holm oak allee. Amelanchier trees give dappled shade while creating the feeling of enclosure and reducing exposure. The herbaceous border planting provides a variety of textures, shapes and height. A large herb garden was created.

The Result

The whole garden has become more harmonious, with areas flowing into one another creating unity.

” The new layout looks so fantastic that when our neighbour saw the transformation he had to go and get his wife to show her! “
